Hypnosis at Franconia Falls

DSC03048

Past rushing water,

I watched you jump over rocks –

Barefoot, I followed.

DSC03061

Where swirling pebbles,

Made mortar bowls of boulders,

From raging rapids.

DSC03077

But for a moment,

The water slowed down for us –

Something of a pool…

DSC03082

And I couldn’t help,

Getting lost in the ebbing,

At the river’s edge…

DSC03089

Were it yet warmer,

I may have been pulled into,

The icy waters.

DSC03091

Perching on boulders,

Hypnotized, I forgot you,

And I forgot me.

Memories to Mt. Anna

DSC02967

Just past logging camp –

A pond we never noticed

Just beyond our dreams –

DSC02969

Creatures yet unseen,

Precarious jagged nests,

Hiding together.

DSC02971

A beaver was here,

And obviously busy.

How cliche, we laughed.

DSC02977

Too many to count,

And too many to ignore –

All the little ones.

DSC02981

A quiet valley,

A view I hope will replace,

All those final days.

Blue Hills Red Dot Loop

DSC02944

Tiny green cricket,

Sitting in September hush,

I almost missed you.

DSC02945

Just 635 feet,

But with rocks so bold and vast,

You would never know.

DSC02949

A sudden tower,

Alone in the burning sun,

With a Boston view.

DSC02951

Elegant footbridge,

Stoic in invitation,

To cross the forest.

DSC02952

Hidden horizon,

Just over the sand and brush,

Barely a view here.

DSC02954

Castle of weather,

Princes with Barometers,

Swords and Thermometers.

Boulder Loop Trail

DSC02817

Left at the crossroads.

Into the forest I go,

Hunting down ledges.

DSC02825

They were not kidding

When they said there were boulders.

I am so small here.

DSC02828

A landscape of death –

Sharp like the middle ages –

Quickens my slow pace.

DSC02833

Ames is ecstatic

After climbing the boulders.

Finally a break.

DSC02837

He said to me here

While I sat in the sunlight

“Hey – I have cancer.”

“Will you take my picture?

I’m not supposed to be here.”

“Yes” I said to him.

Misunderstanding,

I laughed at his words, and smiled.

“We’ll keep it a secret.”

DSC02839

Now I have a secret

And the best place to keep it

Is inside these rocks.
